a song of Alfas, Fire, and Doughnuts
When Rebecca and Charlie first told me about their wedding plans, I knew it was going to be a belter. But I don't think any of us could have predicted just how much of an adventure the day would turn out to be. From vintage car breakdowns to near-misses with literal fire, this was a day packed full of proper laughs, incredible energy, and two lovely people having the absolute best time.
Here’s how the madness unfolded.
Morning Prep, Kilts, and Multi-Tasking
The day started with the lads over at Charlie’s house. Spirits were high, the beers were flowing, and we all had a proper laugh when the best man seamlessly took a work phone call in his full kilt without even flinching. Multi-tasking at its finest. Charlie and Rebecca’s dad had also lovingly restored a stunning vintage Alfa Romeo Spider for the big day- a beautiful classic that we’ll definitely be talking about more in a minute...
Afterwards, I headed over to the girls at Rebecca’s parents’ house. Everyone was remarkably chilled and calm. I made quick friends with their beautiful cat, captured a lovely first look with Rebecca's dad and her bridesmaids, and spent the rest of morning prep successfully stopping her dad from accidentally spraying aftershave on his face while smoking a cigarette. Dynamic lighting, high stakes.
Singing Spaniels and a Speed-Walking Bridal Party
The ceremony was held at the beautiful Auchterhouse Parish Church. Rebecca and the bridal party decided to walk to the church, and they absolute leg-it down the road. They actually managed to beat me there, even though I was driving!
The service itself was brilliant, made even better by the fact that their lovely spaniel, Oscar, was in attendance. He made an absolute stellar effort helping the congregation out with the hymns, which is easily a new favourite wedding memory of mine.
Once the knots were officially tied, it was time for confetti in the churchyard, and the newlyweds leapt into the freshly restored Alfa Romeo. They drove back around the corner to Rebecca’s folks’ house to grab some quick photos in the garden, and that's when the vintage car curse struck.
The Alfa Romeo Incident
By the time I met back up with them, the Alfa had broken down. It had managed a grand total of about one mile before giving up the ghost. Despite everyone’s best efforts to revive it, the car was declared DoA.
Most couples would panic, but not these two. Thankfully, Charlie has a bit of a vehicle fleet to his name. He whisked Rebecca off to their own place in his recently converted campervan to retrieve a backup ride to get them over to Kinclune House for the reception. Absolute legends.
Playing with Fire
After the meal, we caught the perfect window for a beautiful sunset shoot around the Kinclune grounds, followed by a sparkler aisle. Now, usually, I'm pretty smooth, but as I was walking backwards to get the shot, the couple and the guests started pointing and shouting furiously behind me.
I spun around just in time to realise I was about to step straight into the massive bucket of fire being used to light the sparklers. Hilarity ensued, I kept my trousers intact, and the adrenaline honestly helped me bag some of my favourite shots of the night.
Evening Antics & Wild Moves
Lastly, the dancing. The Rox Band kicked things off and the dancefloor instantly went wild. We’re talking exotic outfits, questionable but enthusiastic dance moves, and a proper high-energy end to a cracking wedding.
I spent the whole day laughing out loud with Rebecca, Charlie, and their guests. Days like this make me so incredibly aware that I’ve got the absolute best job in the world.
'Twas brilliant.
